The Orange Buzz

Adding some Orange Buzz to Marriage Prep

I’m excited about my latest step into spreading the orange buzz: two contributions to a new book.

I contributed two pieces to this book.

I was asked to submit some material to this just-published book All-in-One Marriage Prep: 75 Experts Share Tips & Wisdom to Help You Get Ready Now. The book, which is published by Barringer Publishing, features two of my contributions toward preparing for marriage:”The Buffalo Wing Principle” and “Prepare for ‘Mile 18’ in Your Future Marriage.”

You can find out more about the book and purchase it through the website for All-In-One Marriage Prep, created by the book’s creator, relationship and marriage coach Susanne M. Alexander. My book, Meeting Your Half-Orange, as well as The Dating Optimist website and my new iPhone App are all cited in the book.

I’m super proud of my contributions and honored to be featured alongside such incredible experts in the field. The book is being presented at this year’s SmartMarriages Conference this week, so I’m thrilled to be a part of helping young couples form and sustain healthy relationships.

Everyone has a half-orange out there—and if you want it, he or she can be part of the marriage of your dreams.

Have an “Orange Buzz” Spa Experience!

I mean…as if I didn’t love the Sunset Marquis Hotel in L.A. enough, the hotel is now offering an amazing discount hotel/spa package based on my book, Meeting Your Half-Orange. The “Operation Optimism” package is called  “The Orange Buzz” and includes all sorts of goodies, from a mani/pedi and facial in the spa to a gym pass and at-pool goodies, to a signed copy of my book and a 30-minute phone session with me! It’s truly my favorite hotel in Los Angeles and I’m so honored to partner up with them in a package created to promote health—both inside and out.

If you need a good reason for a getaway to experience a little R&R (reading and relaxation), this is a perfect way to get your Orange Buzz off to a great start!

Two Half-Orange Dream Boards!

One of the fun parts of the half-orange process is creating a visual reminder of how you want to feel in a relationship, which will give you a little Orange Buzz for love every time you see it.

I explain the scientific and psychological powers behind it, and tell some chills-inducing stories of how it can work (remember the story of the woman who put a picture of a cowboy and a red Mercedes on her Dream Board?!) And I’ve loved seeing what some of you have created yourselves.

Here are some of the Dream Boards people have sent.

Here’s one from Susan, who showed it to all her friends and even put her board on her blog, “because I’m fearless!” she wrote.

I love the cartoon couples. And the words she used, like “floaty” and “happy” and “it makes perfect sense”—which it will once you meet your other half.

Here’s a board created by another reader, who said:

“I just read your book and loved it! I have a tip for those who aren’t into the cut-outs-and-glue dream boards: I made a “virtual” collage of images found on the web and use it as my screen saver. There’s no mess, no cleanup and I definitely look at it everyday!”

That looks like a pretty damn fun life, doesn’t it? Natural and adventurous with feelings or actions of surfing, eating, holding hands, snuggling, hugging and having “Fun! Fun! Fun!”

The truth is, both of these Dream Boards are amazing—and yours can look similar or completely different. There is no wrong answer to making one, because each one of us is so completely different! If you haven’t made yours yet, find a little cut-n-paste fever deep down inside and go for it. Like the Lottery, you can’t win if you don’t play. And you can’t get what you ask for without asking.

My Time with Kim Iverson

I had a great chat about the neuroscience of dating optimism and the key points within Meeting Your Half-Orange with fun radio personality Kim Iverson. And this is a woman who “gets it,” you know what I mean? We did our interview in two small parts with a commercial break in between and since I just got the files up, I thought you might like to take a listen!

Here’s the first half of the Half-Orange Interview…

…and here’s the second half:

Consider this “your time” with the both of us!

The Sincerest Form of Flattery!

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? Well, then I’m blushing today with all this doggone flattery. Why?

A sour imitation

Because someone made an App called “Half-Lemon Pessimisms!” It’s a direct play off of my App, in that it’s a photo of a lemon where the orange should be, and you shake it to bring up depressing statements. I thought it might be funny, but my designer checked into it for me and it’s yawnfully unoriginal stuff. Oh well. In fact, the one review that was on there the other day said only this:

Review title: “Lame.”

Review: “lame.”

So overall, the App’s a lemon—it’s loaded with advertisements in the creator’s attempt to collect ad revenue from it. But I had to give it props for choosing my App to imitate!

Still, isn’t this a sign that someone’s feeling a little too bitter about life? I suppose they could use the Half-Orange Optimisms App more than ever. So thanks Half-Lemon, I got a kick out of it. 🙂

What’s Hot in Apps? Half-Oranges!

Well, my little engine that could—the companion iPhone App to the book—has moved up to another incredibly hot spot this week: Half-Orange Optimims is now on the App store’s “What’s Hot” list!

I’m so proud, it feels like my little baby App is getting to be on Oprah…

If you haven’t checked it out, you can find Half-Orange Optimisms on the App store—and I suggest you do! It’s meant to help you work up an orange buzz any time you need it, day or night, pre-date or post, pessimism be darned. Because with a little optimism, you can make a lot of changes in your dating life.

Some Australian Buzz

People Down Under need half-oranges, too, you know. So I was thrilled that a great Aussie website for singles called “That’s Why You’re Single” printed a piece I wrote, called What You’re Doing Wrong.”

And in case you could use the advice right now, here’s the link to it!

Real Simple Has the Orange Buzz!

Well look what came bursting out of the grocery store aisles this month: A new issue of Real Simple (love the mag) with a bright, bursting orange on the cover in a story about uplifting your mood!

I see it as yet another step in spreading the half-orange message. If you want a half-orange life—a sweet, healthy life bursting with goodness and love—then your optimism, energy and positivity can get you there! And anytime you forget that, just glance at all the oranges smiling at you from the grocery store check-out line and let that be all the reminder you need.

Half-Orange on “The CBS Early Show”

One of my favorite moments of getting the word out about Meeting Your Half-Orange came with an appearance on the CBS Early Show with two of TV’s friendliest hosts, Chris Wragge and Erica Hill.

The producers asked for a bit of a battle between the dating experts, which was challenging, but I did my best to state the Half-Orange case as I joined Anna David (in-studio) and Lori Gottlieb (via satellite) to explain why I think settling is a terrible idea. I wish I’d had time to say more, but TV moves quickly and, hey, that’s what all those words in the book are for!

Watch the clip of my appearance here:

The App Store Buzz!

I got a wonderful surprise this weekend when I found out that this week, the Apple App store has chosen my “Half-Orange Optimisms” App as one of its “Featured Apps!” It’s like having a little orange buzz in your pocket at all times.

A shot of the "Featured Apps"

I’m so thrilled that someone over at Apple liked the little App enough to put it on the list—not to mention that it sits alongside cool people like The Dave Matthews Band and TheOnion.com Apps among others. So thank you Apple!

And I hope it helps everyone who uses it remember that shaking up your point of view (after shaking the App on your iPhone!) can affect how you feel, who you meet and what goes down, both in dating and in life.

If you haven’t checked out the App yet,  Half-Orange Optimisms is on iTunes and in the App store on your iPhone. Here’s to adding a little optimism to your day!
